About

I created Max & Mum, French for Fun in 1995 to teach French to young children and encourage my son Max to speak his mother's tongue! A year later, I was approached by the owner of Reston Montessori School, a wonderful school in Reston, Virginia. I fell in love with the school and the Montessori philosophy. I accepted the position , enrolled my children, and the rest is history!

A few years later, I started teaching privately to "bridge the gap" between elementary and middle, or high school. My program was originally designed to give the opportunity to elementary age students to continue building upon the strong foundation of the French language that they had acquired while attending Reston Montessori School.

My initial goal has always been to instill a love of learning the French language at an early age. My purpose, as a private tutor, is to motivate and encourage students to continue pursuing their studies. Not only do I want them to excel at local schools, whether public or private, I intend to help them develop the language skills that will enable them to engage in conversations with French speakers all around the world. My ultimate goal is for my students to become true citizens of the world and develop a lifelong love and appreciation for French and its various cultures around the world.

Group Lessons

Groups lessons are typically held during the school year. Students are grouped by age and level. I use a variety of mediums to accommodate all learning styles. My goal is to create an engaging curriculum and a joyful environment.

Private Lessons

I offer lessons to all ages and levels. Lessons are typically held weekly. They can be in conjunction of a school class or for anyone who wants to learn French. No previous knowledge of the language is required.

CALENDAR

SUMMER/FALL: September 5th - November 21st

No class on 9/7 - Reston Montessori School Back to School Night

No class 9/20 to 9/22 - Reston Montessori School Camping Trip

Classes will be held on 10/09 (Indigenous People's Day)

FALL/WINTER: November 26th - March 3rd
No class from 11/21st to 11/26th - Thanksgiving Break
No class during 12/17 to 01/01 - Winter break
No class 1/15 - Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Classes will be held on 2/19 - Presidents Day and GW Birthday

WINTER/SPRING: March 6th - Between May 31st and June 10th* (Best estimate - Will be adjusted if necessary)* Monday students will finish last to make up for holidays.

No class during 3/25 to - 4/1 - Spring Break
No class 5/12 - Mothers' Day
No class 5/24 to 5/27 - Memorial Day weekend

IMPORTANT: A few lessons times or dates may have to be adjusted to accommodate school events, or unforeseen circumstances. Thank you for your understanding.
In the event I am unable to teach a class and am unable to offer a make up, you will receive a full refund for any missed lesson* (see built- in sick day policy)

Please inform me if your child has to miss class for any reason. Homework is typically posted in Google Classroom. Students are expected to complete weekly assignments.
Students may attend a different group class to make up for a class, if available, and will need to schedule it with me.

Class fees will not be prorated.

RATES AND FEES

GROUP LESSONS (3 to 8 students)

*Yearly Tuition: $1,000 (available until September 10th)
Trimester: $350
Monthly: $130
Material Fee: $50 per student - To be paid at the beginning of the school year (add to first payment).

The material fee includes Grand Concours, should we participate in this year's contest, access to all digital subscriptions and books, if needed.
Siblings: 10% discount.

PRIVATE LESSONS

- 1 student: $65/hr (Yearly tuition rate*): Total yearly: $2,145

Trimester: $725. Monthly: $245.

- 2 non siblings students $75/hr (Yearly tuition rate* ) Total yearly: $2,475 ($1,237.50 per student)

Trimester: $840 ($420/student) Monthly: $280 ($140/student)

- 2 sibling students (discount - $5):$70/hr (yearly tuition rate*)Total yearly: $2,310

Trimester: $785 - Monthly: $265

Material Fee: $50 per student - To be paid at the beginning of the school year (Please add to first payment) - The material fee will include Grand Concours and access to all digital material.

Siblings taking SEPARATE lessons: 10% discount.

We plan to have 34 weeks of instruction this school year.

* Yearly tuition is calculated for 33 lessons to have a built in "sick day" credit.
* Yearly tuition is available until September 10th 2023.

Trimester: Payments are due by the first class of the trimester.

Monthly: 9 payments, due by the first week of class in September 2023 and then by the first day of the month until May 2024.

Private lessons and group lessons follow the same policies and schedule.

NOTES:

- Lessons take place weekly, unless other arrangements are made.
- Students must give 24-hours notice to reschedule a lesson.
- Late cancellations result in 1 hour deducted from your tuition credit.
- We typically follow FCPS calendar for holidays but NOT teacher workdays.
